I meant to be on the road at 5 but it ended up being closer to 5:30. It was nice at that time. Cool as the sun came up. I was along Lake Tahoe for a while and then started uphill. I rode very easy and kept my heart rate below 130. When it was steeper I went slower. I kept a nice easy pace all day.
Thinking the climb was much longer I was surprised when i reached the top. Usually you think you at near the top and you have long way to go. Going into Carson City was a massive downhill ... I did not pedal once in 10km and hit speeds over 70km/hr. That's pretty fast on two skinny wheels!
Passing through Carson City was easy and I stopped for a coffee as the town thinned out. I got a recommendation for a breakfast spot ahead in Dayton. I thought about continuing on but the folks at the diner were very nice and the eggs, hashbrowns and sausauge were great.
I was finished breakfast before 9 and only had 80km to go. I pulled up at the hotel before noon but could not check in yet. I ended up sitting in Taco Bell for 2 hours. The Pho place I wanted to go to looked like it had gone out of business. A bowl of noodles would have been so nice ... I'm getting a little tired of diner food.
There was not a tree or natural shade from Carson City to Fallon.
It was hot by noon and it was even hotter when I left Taco Bell. Tomorrow will be the same so I need to be out of the Fallon lights by the time it is light enough to see or I will get cooked tomorrow.
well done!!
ReplyDeleteI think keeping your heart rate below 130 is an excellent idea. I'm glad you're monitoring it.
ReplyDeleteDay 4 and you're already tired of diner food? Get used to it buddy, I'm sure there are many more diner meals yet to come.
Stay safe
Did you try the beets as I suggested yesterday? Eat them every day, you will be amazed by how much better your daily recovery will be.
