I had my bike out the door but still had stuff to attach when Zack and Natalie rode out. We had dinner with their parents last night at a Mexican restaurant down the street. Fun evening. This will probably be the last day we leap frog each other as they are taking a family day in Telluride. Sad to think we won't be running into each other any longer. Each time during the day we passed each other we said final goodbyes ... 4 times I think. Happy, safe riding my friends.
Just after this photo Natalie sees a bear probably 50 yards away in the road. The bear played a little dodge car before scooting off into the woods.
The road barely got over 3% and was mostly 1 and 2% which are pretty easy climbs. RideWithGPS only considered one short section a "climb". Over 80km I did climb 1000m and found myself at the top of some amazing mountains.
The downhill was great and I turned on the GoPro quite a few times. At the final scenic pull out before the descent to Telluride there were some breath taking views.
Once I started decending to Telluride I never stopped. I didn't even look in the direction of Telluride. It got hotter and hotter the lower I got. There were a lot of very nice homes hidden in the woods.
Without having pedaled in quite a while I arrived in Sawpit where the local store had a lot of smoked and BBQed meats. I filled up. Got some for dinner as this was the closest thing to the Bivvi Hostel.
There weren't many options for places to stay. Some event is going on and lots of things are booked. I saw the Bivvi Hostel and had a choice of 4 or 6 person room. I took the 4 and realized I haven't stayed in a hostel in 44 years. When I got here I found they have private rooms and I got one of those. This place is way nicer than any place I've stayed in a long time. It has a hostel atmosphere in the common areas but the private rooms are better than most hotels.
Colorado looks absolutely beautiful. Thanks for sharing the pics. Stay safe.
