There was very little fun today. Fight the wind. Everything hurt. On the road for 9 hours. My lunch burger was far too little. The scenery was both spectacular and boring.
When I took a break to look around it often was amazing. The problem was it took hours for the scene to change. You could see things in the distance that took 45 minute to get to. I took this series of pictures 2km apart ... and it took about 20 minutes to cover the distance:
The highlight of the day was as I approached the top of the first of three climbs. I saw Forest ahead and met him at the pass. A couple from San Francisco on a tandem were also there. The couple had left at 4am, Forest at 5am and me at 6am. The advantage of travelling light. Forest just messaged me that he was almost in town ... 13 hours on the road.
I ate my burger at the first pass and it carried me over the second but I ran out of gas on the third and had to resort to the Gu's and the Blocks. I avoid using them but I carry them for this situation.
Ths SF couple mention that they had been told of an abandoned house that cyclists camp at. When they had asked where it was the guy said it was the only house. This is it:
