Day 8 - Eureka to Ely

Sitting Denny's waiting for the hotel to have rooms. No lie ... I just heard a guy state with conviction that a COVID vaccination will sterilize you and then kill you in 3 years.  The goal is 95% population reduction.  Makes sense to me.

Finally got a good nights sleep last night and woke to the alarm.  I was out at five and got stronger as I went.  Today was the first day I felt like I had anything extra.  Finally recovered from the death at Kirkwood?
Last night I had dinner with Zach and Natalie at the Urban Cowboy.  Good talk and we ate a lot.  I got a burger and fries for the road.  I had cold French fries for breakfast at my break.  Tasted ok.
I was just coming to the end of a long downhill when I saw a cyclist coming up.  We chatted for a bit.  He was Jay Barnes from Pittsburgh and he had been on the road for 2 months.  He was shirtless and looked like he wasn't bothering with sunscreen ... he was pretty toasted.
At 90km I caught up to Forest.  He left Eureka at 4am.  I had not seen him since Day 1.  He had taken an Uber from Plymouth to Carson City the day I died on the mountain.  I wonder how much that cost?  My day off in Stateline put him in front me.  I made that up when I went from Fallon to Austin.  He did that in 2 days.
Just finished a not very good Denny's meal.  The waitress was impressed I was riding and even more impressed I am 2 years older than her.  She came in for a closer look.

Still waiting for rooms so I'm having a beer.  I would like to get clean.
I think I'm getting a little tired of Nevada.  Tomorrow will be the last night and it is a shorter day so I will probably leave a little later.  6-ish should get me in before noon.

  1. LOL about the guy and the COVID vaccine. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, "you can't fix stupid", and unfortunately, there seems to be a lot of Americans, and Canadians, that won't get the vaccine. Even some that work in LTCs and health care. Go figure.
