Cycling: San Francisco to Toronto - June 2021
Trying some new things here.
First Blogger. On previous long distance trips I have used my own built and hosted site, later switching to crazyguyonabike.com. Both have their drawbacks and advantages. After 15 minutes this seems pretty simple and will work on my phone which is my only device on the road. The Google Docs-like interface is familiar and looks like it does all I need it to do from a small screen.
Actually, not much else is new. I've done a bunch of long trips: Toronto to Nevada in 2005; Nevada to San Francisco in 2007; all over Michigan and Southern Ontario at various times; Bogota to Cartagena in 2017 and Bogota to Medellin in 2018. A third trip to Colombia got COVID-cancelled in 2020.
This trip will be a solo and I intend to follow ACA routes (https://www.adventurecycling.org/) starting with the Western Express. Previously, I just looked on Google Maps and figured out a route - usually, the shortest line between two points. These routes might be a little slower but should be nicer riding.
I travel as light as possible and so I eat at restaurants and sleep in hotels. Bike kit and not much else.
This trip will be the start of my upcoming retirement. So other than a desire to end up in Toronto (COVID willing) there isn't much of an agenda.
